LIFE  SETTLEMENTS
*For Accredited Investors

Life Settlements are uncorrelated assets. No matter what happens to interest rates, the economy, political climate, foreign currencies, or who is in the White House, life settlement payouts are unaffected. Return of principal is through contractual obligation of America's largest and most financially stable companies such as New York Life, Prudential, AIG, and other highly rated insurers.

The industry is estimated at over $100 billion and has been dominated by institutional investors including Berkshire Hathaway, AIG and CNA. But Life Settlements are also available to individual investors through direct fractional ownership. This is like owning one room in each of several luxury hotels, without having to purchase all of the properties. The investor pays a fraction of the cost for ownership and beneficiary rights to a portion of the investment policy and maintains individual control over the asset. This offers the RARE opportunity of double-digit returns for investors, with the low risk parity of investment-grade bonds.

Life Settlements fit perfectly in the accredited investor’s portfolio as a replacement for CDs, money markets or bonds, provided liquidity is not an issue. Unlike CDs, money markets and bonds, life settlements are mid-to-long term investments of at least three to five years, and can not be relied upon for short-term liquidity. They are an excellent hedge for your portfolio, yielding much higher returns than fixed money investments, yet not affected by market risk.

So what is a life settlement? It is the sale of an existing life insurance policy by a senior citizen, that is unwanted, unneeded or no longer affordable. The price of the policy is negotiated and sold by the owner to another party at a discount to the face amount. The owner benefits from the immediate cash payout. The purchaser then collects the full face amount of the policy when it matures (death benefit).

Life Settlements are considered a valuable financial planning tool and have been recognized by AARP, Kiplinger’s, Bloomberg, The Wall Street Journal, American Institute of CPAs, “60 Minutes,” “20/20,” “Dateline,” CNBC Business Channel, and others.
